I am heading up Friday as long as the weather cooperates. I have not heard much either but I should be to have a report by Friday evening.

Yes, top 10 ft will work, but I usually go with a a down rigger or two on the boat as well and depending on depth of water you’re fishing I have had a DR at 12 ft down and 18 ft down do a lot of damage as well early in the year like this. I typically put small slender spoons on the riggers and stick baits on the flat lines.

Why can’t we use deeper diving baits? For 12 and 18 feet.

Fished Saturday and marked 1000s of fish. Had one on for a few seconds otherwise they had lock jaw. Found most in 75ft of water between 10 and 25ft down.

I have caught them not far off the Park Point beach this time of year pulling Smelt-imitating stickbaits. There could be some smelt spawning on the beach yet.

We were in Duluth last weekend and could see 10-20 boats in front of Park Point Beach and another 10-20 at any given time along the shoreline in front of town.

Depends where you are… If you are on the north shore around the Lester River area, you’re looking at anywhere from a couple hundred feet to a quarter mile (maybe a half in some spots) to get to 75’…. If you are fishing Park Point, 75′ can be as much as 2-3 miles off shore.

If you go to Navionics website, you can play around with their online chartviewer that allows you to see depths and measure distances very easily.

I’d first figure out where you are going to launch (either up the shore at McQuade or in the River/Bay at Rices point or any of the other launches), and then devise a game plan from there.

We are going out of McQuade’s. Sister in law lives on the north end of Duluth.
