Yes it has been very good the last couple of years. Keep your eyes here and you will start to hear all about it come mid December.
Yep, been there and done it. Walk/ride out to the first break from shore, make some holes and drop down a rattling lure with a minnow head and hang on. Depth can be 6-10 FOW. Seriously, it’s that easy.

Usually this bite lasts thru the end of December. After that you can find fish on the next structure past the first shoreline break.
Here is a show we did on URL last year. You’ll get a feel pretty quickly on how easy and productive early ice on red can be!
