With the permanent shacks having to get pulled off the ice this weekend in Wisconsin and the forecast showing 40 degrees plus for the next week it’s got my mind on big schools of perch and big aggressive crappies. The only down side to me is that it means we only have probably a month of good ice left. But the best ice fishing is yet to come! What’s your favorite late ice target species?

Perch on Leech Lake of course, and Trout until the season closes. I’m going to go chase some trout on Lake Superior early next week! Can’t wait.

I’ve had my fill of ice fishing this season to say the least.

There is a gremlin that shoveled snow and salted the heck out of a boat ramp while I’ve been working. Open water at 5:30am tomorrow
There is hundreds of these waiting on us!

March 7, 2015 at 10:47 pm #1520970For me it’s big bull gills. The next 3 or 4 weeks depending on weather are the best weeks of the winter season for me. Hope to find time to get out to SD and chase a few Jumbo perch as well.

March 8, 2015 at 11:47 pm #1521270Won’t officially call it a season quite yet as over 20″ of ice on Lake Wisconsin today, but she was getting sloppy out there. Possibly my last outing where I have to drill a hole for the year…
