I have a 16′ boat that I just obtained, if it does not have a title do you need anything for licensing it, just the license number? Or is a bill of sale required? And how do I go about determining if the boat has a title or not? It is a 1990 alumacraft dominator side console 16’that I plan on selling but want to get everything up to snuff for easy transfer for the next owner.

If your in Minnesota the tag on the side of the boat is your registration. Just bring that in to the DMV with bill of sale

Also bring in the the Hull ID# located on the starboard side of the transom. You will probably have a “Lifetime” license on the trailer. You will need to transfer ownership of the trailer at the DMV. The seller should have an owners card for the trailer. Same thing there. Get a signed bill of sale.
