Bikes from the 70’s and 80’s while cheap to buy are not always the ticket for a new rider. Bikes that age will need all kinds of things done to them just to be safe/reliable. The handling on these bikes flat out sucks compared to later models. They don’t stop nearly as well, the frames flex causing handling problems, the rubber/tire configuration won’t let you lean the way you can on a later vintage machine. Not that you’ll want to start out dragging your knee around corners but when you get in a tight spot (AND YOU WILL) you need all the help you can get.

If you have not ridden before get on a dirt bike and play for a while. Learn what it feels like when the back tire goes out from under you. You don’t want to be freaking out when you hit some loose gravel/sand on the pavement. As some one mentioned above TAKE AN APPROVED RIDDER SAFETY COURSE!

I have been riding motorcycles since I was 13 (going on 50) with 30 plus differnt bikes that I have owned. Simply put, this is a dangerous endevor and you don’t want to handicap you abilities to survive by riding a rattle trap to save a few bicks. That said it can be a lot of fun.

We desperately need to develope an alternative fuel other than that based on crude oil…that goal has been supressed by the big oil companies for years…JMHO

Amen Tom! Get going with everything we have and let them soak in their own oil. I watched a report about this subject not to long ago and they were talking to some country leader (Brazil?) and how they were completely independent from foriegn oil because they used sugar cane to make fuel. Sounds great to me. More work for us at home and no need to deal with the middle east idiots.

Jon pretty much hit the nail on the head…

The Bush admin needs to crack the whip on Iran and quit calling bluffs..

The Star and Trib really cracks me up. Still living in a fantasy world.

    Yea whatever Jon says….

Please tell us how you would have King George “crack the whip”? I just have to hear this. We are all out of whips! The bush admin can’t even get enough troops in Iraq to cause more than a water bed effect. Stop the problems in one place and they pop up some place else. The troops over there are the best in the world but when you have politicians micro managing the effort it makes it hard for them to do what they do best. The only way out of this BS is to use alternitive fuels of some kind. We can not invade every country that produces oil.

I took my son (home on leave from the Army) to the season opener. I like to go to the ball games but I still can not get past the question of why they need a new place to play ball. As I understand it I would not get any increase in taxes but the idea that the public has to pay for a privately owned entity so they can make more money baffels me. They (owners/politicians) will not stop coming up with different plans to push this through until they get what they want.

    Hoist,
congratulations to your son on the completion of his training. I know Exactly how you feel. My son Eric joined the Army and is out in WA at fort Lewis, 2nd Infantry Division – Recon. He deploys to Iraq in June. The changes he went through over the last 6 months of training are nothing short of amazing.

I released all but two that were over 15 just in case there was a limit that I could not find. I was reading that you must be 300ft down river from lock&dam #3. It looked to me like there were a LOT of people that didn’t read that part…

Troy, still working on the boat. Darn barn door was froze to the groud, trolling motor needs to be mounted, battries need to be put back in, lights tested/fixed…If you can get a ride with jigginjim that would be a better bet. I only have one PFD so you would need your own. I have to get back to work on the boat. Send me a PM if interested.

I am going out Friday but the only things I can show you are where to put in at, where everyone BUT me is catching fish and how damn cold it is. Sound like fun? Honestly I am not the one you want to go with if your looking to learn anything about catching fish. Who knows, maybe Friday will be the day it all comes together…

I went to the link looking for anything on perscription sunglasses but NADA. Does anyone use perscriptions in their sunglasses? If so what kind?

I don’t know what it is but I can’t seem to get a walleye or sauger on a ring worm.

Yup that about says it all for me. I have to admit that I don’t get to the river as often as I would like but if they are not biting on vertical jig technique then I troll cranks. If that doesn’t work I have a beer. Nothing will humble a person more than to be fishing a spot (catching nothing) then have some one pull up next to you and catch one every pass.

Well I had to vote yes because I just know how it works…
BUT – Think duct tape! They make it in all kinds of colors.

I am a reletive newbie to this sport as well. When I started a couple years ago I got the Gander Mountain MH 7′ guide series baitcaster. I have been using a shimano calcutta with 50# tuffline. The reel is more expensive than I needed but I worked for GM at the time and got it for about the same as a abu. I have got one smaller fish in the boat so far and a much larger fish next to the boat. Everything worked great so far, I just need to learn to set the damn hook!

The US does not currently have operation control over those ports anyway. (The Brits did) The US does continue to control all security. Not to mention, nothing gets into or out of those ports without the Teamsters getting paid.

You two make it sound like there is some kind of national security problem here. You need to do some homework. And as far at the “Press”….They are all over the story with the same off base slant.

If 98% of the containers go unchecked it would seem like a HUGE national security problem to me. Giving the UAE control is going to help this? Your not really saying that we can trust the Teamsters to keep WMD’s out are you? Home work is finished!

Sorry, I didn’t see this thread before I posted a simular one.
Any way I have to agree with some that the it was hard to just look at the boats and not be given a sales pitch.
What in the world is the Lake Assult used for?

    Tim,
I hear very little criticism of our troops or the job that they are doing. I believe that most people are upset with the current administration’s decision to INVADE a country on weak (at best) intel., that had no WMD’s, no connection Alqeada BEFORE we went in, you know just a couple of little things like that.

I suppose you could find some kids that thought they could get a free education out of the government by joining the service and ended up being called on to serve. I have worked and know a few of them and what surprised me is their parents were more upset about them going to Iraq than the kids themselves. The kids knew what they were getting into, just never thought they’d end up in the situation they did, while there parents were hoping they’d get a free education out of the deal……….until the price needs to be paid.

All I can say to the above is WOW! I wrote and erased many things because I wanted what I say to not come off as a hot head or something.

YOU are EXTREAMLY insensitive. There are many parents (like me) who would have no trouble putting the kids through school. Yea WE are concerned for our sons and daughters going into battle. You would have to be an IDIOT to not be upset with the idea. You speak as though the soldiers and their families are plotting to rip off the gov. “until the price needs to be paid”.
Ask those who are joining up today if they think there going to get a free ride. No one matter what the outcome of their time in the service if they go into battle they will pay for the rest of their lives. These young men and women are PATRIOTS, not common thieves.

BTW In case you didn’t get the drift, I am a proud parent of a soldier in the Army (Recon Battalion).

I have a 1650 lund with a 40 on it. Pretty light rig all things considered. I pull it with a Ford Ranger with a 4.0 V6. The whole ball of was is only a fraction of the twoing capacity of the truck. I get about 16 – 18mpg going 70mph.

Sometimes that is the correct response/assumption by the LE.
This kind of pains me to tell but it should be told. I have a relative that is and always has been one to ignore bag limits, season limits, shooting hours etc. The CO’s where he lives know him well. He has been stoped a few times and chased many more. Now when they see him they stop him. I listen to him urine and moan about his rights being violated and to someone that does not know the whole story it might look like its true. I am not implying that the person in the original post is like this. I just wanted to point out that there are times when the CO’s have reason to be concerned when ever they see someone.

I like it! I could pick out where I’ve been the only time I fished that end of the pool. It is some what hard to tell where land starts and stops in some places.

I have a Gander Mountain 7′ MedHvy/fast, bait caster with a calcutta reel that works very nicely on big pike and muskies. The rod is not very expensive, 80ish I think.

    Have fun.

I am from MN and I guess the vikes are my team but they do not deserve to win another game. Our team does not want to play let alone win. I think Daintie’s physical ability is much higher than Farv’s but he lacks the ability to lead and has NO heart whatsoever. If EVERYTHING does not go his way he melts down. It looks like the vikings grand offensive
line has grown tired of protecting a QB that cna’t lead.
Until they show some desire they should just stay out of the Gophers way. That team is playing hard!

I have to feel bad for the TRUE fans like yourself. Not much to cheer for. I have lived all over the US and have a lot of teams that I want to see win. Any predictions on who the new coach will be next year?
