Where in Stoddard are you going? Are you fishing by the rock wall that goes out in the river?
Wow what a fish! If I caught it, I would hope I was in a tournament that day.
I use 15 lb. P Line. It is strong enough to reel in a 25 lb. salmon but is limp so the line doesn’t recoil and become tangled up. I have tried other brands 12-15 lb. line and they are stiff and want to unwind off the spool. If you buy the line Gander Mt. will wind on the reel free so the curl is going on the right way and doesn’t become twisted.
You’re right two poles works to try different things if the biting is slow. If they’re biting too fast to keep up, I’ll drop down to one.
It’s always a guessing game if you see the bobber has a small nibble to wait, or take it right away.
Since I was a kid fishing for panfish, I used a bobber with a minnow AND a piece of a nightcrawler on it. It helped make the decision easier on which bait they might be biting on. It also helps guarantee bait on your hook if the fish strips one of the baits off. It is flexible if crappies, gills, bass, etc. are biting. Two poles with bobbers at different depths also helps to locate where they are biting.
I got a few yesterday. They were biting on nightcrawlers more than minnows.
I believe on can stand the bank on either side of the Mississippi River between the railroad tracks with a WI lisc. Someone else recommended by the bridge in Stillwater, MN. It’s about 1/2 hr. drive from their house in Bloomington. Thanks all for your help! Any more hot spots?
