Have not been out there in a couple years now but it can be magical once you figure a few things out.

    My exact thoughts.

Don’t give up, keep trying different locations. If they are there, they will eat and when they do, I am begging everyone to please release them.

The bite on tonka is nothing like what you described on mille lacs. There some eyes in tonka, but they are hard to find. There is normally a 5 to 20 minute window that it turns on and hopefully one of the 3 people in your boat gets one for the night. On very rare nights there are more then one caught, but going home without any eyes is far more likely on tonka. Probably not what you wanted to hear.

Sorry but I have to disagree with the majority of your post. Yes, they are hard to find at first. Once you have established patterns and locations you can successfully repeat catching walleyes out every outing. Yes, numbers will vary and true you’re never going to get the quantity of Mille Lacs, BUT I believe you have a better chance of catching a 10lb walleye on Minnetonka over Mille Lacs. I’m on the fence about “windows”. You need to develop a “milk run” of spots. If you pull a fish off of a spot another one will replace it. These large walleyes are the apex predator, other than the muskies, and we find that after we catch a fish another one will take its place on the prime piece of structure or prime ambush point. We often will pull a few fish and then run to another part of the lake to let things settle down and allow new to fish to replace the ones we have caught and released. I think the “windows” many times are the new fish, there are only so many fish in the system. The other “windows” I believe are the weather changes or conditions, especially when the weather is becoming favorable. In other words we usually catch fish throughout the evening.

Pulse line from crank case to fuel pump, fuel pump diaphragm, fuel filter, fuel shut off valve, fuel pickup in tank, fuel pickup hose in tank. Cleaned carb could be the culprit if not properly reassembled. Just replaced all fuel lines on my 95′ and vintage 76′ Jags, the lines were rock hard and crumbling.

I was out of work in 2009 and found myself reading lots of forums and newspapers and saw a post on HSO in the lost forums about a lost Clam Ice shanty that fell out of the bed of a truck. Was flipping through the local free classifieds newspaper for Wright/Carver county and a guy had a Found classified for an ice shanty. Some time had lapsed, but sure enough the shanty found it’s owner.

I was more blown away buy the guy towing a 30 something foot power boat (that requires 3 axles) with a Chevy Trailblazer or whatever midsize SUV that was.

No problem it probably it had a Hemi (tongue in cheek). It was a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Not sure its easy for anyone to kick an addiction to crack. I guess the same can be said for anyone trying to quit an addiction to any addictive drug. Nicotine included!

I’m just saying I won’t be surprised if we see him on Kare 11 again.

    Did you watch the interview?

Sure did, back when it aired this past fall. Just watched it again for a refresher. Good luck Puffy!

How long till they hire Super Star? That is if he is actually looking for more radio work.

That beyond a doubt is some of the worse radio I have ever listened to in my life. Talk about sophomoric shtick, they were attempting to be like Bernard on KQ, only without any talent. Morris might be OK by himself but that crew he had with him was awful.

Star alone talking Vikings was interesting, lots of insight and he brought former Vikings to his show because of his connections. I agree they were not going to solve any of the world’s problems on that show. But I agree washed up wannabe rockstar Chris Hawkey and the other clowns don’t bring much to the table.

Tom Bernard sucks, talk about a “Debbie Downer”, every things sucks to that “Know It All”. I like Brian Zepp though.

Be interested myself, can’t be great with 12″ of heavy wet snow sitting on it, plus 38 degrees today.

It snows enough to ride a snowmobile in Indiana?

Mojogunter, I was born and raised in Northern Indiana, average snowfall totals are higher than probably most of Minnesota due to Lake Effect Storms. I think South Bend, IN averages high 60’s close to 70 inches. Only difference is the air temps fluctuate much more and thus the snow usually doesn’t pile up. The sun usually cleans the pavement up after it snows, unlike I have found here in MN. It is also usually very wet snow from the lake influence or moisture rich gulf influence. Lots of “heart attack” snow.

In the west metro I keep finding plenty of ice, it just happens to be mixed with a little whiskey and cola.

I’m guessing we still got a while locally. Hoping for 6 to 8 inches around Christmas.

I should add I am chasing the big eyes we catch fall trolling, mostly 23″-28″. Typically I am pulling the biggest stick baits I can get my hands on, HJ-14’s etc.

I think I am might be leaning towards small suckers. Or what ever is in the 4 or 5 inch range.

Thanks for the quick responses, everyone else must also have ice on the brain.

This is the part I struggle with, the “execution”.

We can’t help ourselves, we start them a few times in the summer and a few times in the fall. We like the sweet smell of synthetic. Rode one of the 1976 Arctic Cat Jag around the yard this summer too.

It sure is interesting when you look at it that way.

But it needs to be compared to revenues generated… they had a story on 60 Minutes about Michigan and Alabama and the silly money the make playing NCAA Football. Alabama really rakes it in & they pay Saban $5.9M/ Yr…

As a Purdue alum Big G nailed it. Danny Hope has the Purdue program going backwards at an alarming rate. The revenues are plummeting due to lack of attendance and everything that goes with it. In this case Purdue got what they paid for and most everyone is ready to run him and the AD Morgan Burke out of West Lafayette.

I want to add 2012 to this running thread. I may just do 2012 in one big report. We have been catching and releasing many nice walleyes this fall, no super tankers yet though. A preview…

45 tonight and not worth the effort, holy wind and then drizzle with 40 degree temps. Made for a short two hour outing.
