We were up there and fished Friday and Saturday… Friday was pretty brutal, and very windy but we managed to boat fish, and Saturday was much better weather, and yes if anyone heard of the boat with people jumping into the water.. That may have been someone in our group.
Between 4 of us fishing we boated 21 Sturgeon, and 1 sucker. Biggest were 2 55″s, and then we had 4 right at the 50″ mark.
We stayed at Slims, and were very happy with the place (minus the road in). Very nice cabins, and great people
April 19, 2013 at 2:57 am #1163838That’s a tough “1st” for me to beat! But I’m gonna try. Man I wish I would have gotten an accurate girth measurement on that beast because I have seen a ton of big sturgeon but that thing was the thickest I have seen!
Looking for that mid 80 incher this year
April 17, 2013 at 12:36 am #1163198Very great write up, and awesome info! We are heading up Thursday and I’m pumped, I have some work to do this year…

April 10, 2013 at 1:00 pm #1161125We are going up on the 18th as well. I have a flat of crawlers that should be waiting, but this year we are staying at Slims. Hope to see some of you up there again this year!
January 22, 2013 at 8:38 pm #1133634When are we going fishing!? I couldn’t catch fish like that even with Photoshop!
January 20, 2013 at 2:23 am #1132726All my buddies are up on mille Lacs and rumor has it that it is pretty nasty up there! Im heading up at 5am, and decided I will probably be passing on going “searching” for fish. I’m thinking of fishing out of our permanent will have to do. Anyone that’s gonna be up there tomorrow we will be having a Bags tourney and a “golf” tourney out of Hunters point, should have 25+ guys!
January 19, 2013 at 2:28 pm #1132579I can’t imagine how horrible it would feel to be that father… Ignorance, or just a plain mistake either way it is still his child and that would be so hard to deal with. Sure hope they are all ok.
January 19, 2013 at 3:58 am #1132529Keep a close eye on craigslist! I can only hope they chop a finger off with the blade….
January 19, 2013 at 3:46 am #1132527Just heard about someone going through but had not heard any details so I knew this would be the spot to check… Sad stuff…
January 18, 2013 at 3:24 pm #1132319that’s a boat load of points!! I have a chase card and they don’t give me crap
January 18, 2013 at 12:43 am #1132139Gives me goosebumps just to read… Never easy to do, but 16 years is a long time to be blessed with a pup. Sorry for your loss

So you can access the lake and drive out onto the lake from Minnetonka regional park? Are there any fees to drive through the park? Still trying to learn the lake and access points myself.
Yes you can, no fee but make sure you park in the lot just up the hill on the left from the landing (if your not driving on), or the top lot if you have a trailer. The police that stopped down talked to me for about an hour and was super cool. Said that bay had cleared out 2 weeks ago because fishing was slow… I liked itJust be careful, the ice is rough to get over the heave going onto and off of the ice. I parked on the ice right at shore because I don’t drive my truck out on water I don’t know and it weighs 7600lbs!! That’s a heavy anchor to pull out!

So how did the fatfish stand up to the wind? Is that the 949i? jw because I just got one and I’m wondering how it will hold up against the prairie wind out here in SoDak
It was VERY windy, and the key is to put the spikes in the corners BEFORE you try to pop it up, also since there was no snow until we left, we had to drill a few extra holes to get slush for packing in the skirt, also I would make sure to use the ropes that it comes with (or make your own) to put on the 2 sides that the wind is hitting the most. I was that guy last week in my quickfish 3 that had his shack lift up and I had to chase it down (I swore I wouldn’t tell a soul, I was soooooo pissed) I WONT be that guy again, it is worth the 3 minutes to stake it down in any wind!
And yeah it is the 949i and it is AMAZING!!!!!! I’m gonna put it to the test this weekend on Mille Lacs!
January 18, 2013 at 12:02 am #1132124I bought a Marcum because I seen the sweatshirt in the mille lacs “big baits” show I would like to purchase a couple IDO sweatshirts as soon as they are available though, would look great in my fishing pics
