Those of you that use the trolling motors in the spring below dams on the river, redwing, alma, ft. City. Is an 80lb enough thrust or is it with going with the 36v 112lb?

I run a 80 lbs on a 17ft6 boat and on the river I wish i had bigger. But it still works fine

Go as big as you can. I have an 1850 Ranger (Reata) and upped to the 112. The 80 would not handle some of the strong currents in that boat.

I know my boat is heavier than yours but this spring in heavy current I couldn’t move upstream a few times at full thrust.

Plus, you will work that 80 to death if you spot lock in heavy current consistently.

I have that exact boat, if I could do it over I would go with the 112 lb. Like the people always say on here… max it out if you can afford it

Batteries will be the weak link in a situation like this.

Flooded acid batteries are like Fruit Stripe gum, they start out ok,but lose capacity rapidly in a high demand use.At the least,I would go with high-quality AGMs(weighty),or just upgrade to LifePo4 batteries.Much lighter, give constant voltage and recharge faster.Add in a Power Pole charge, and you are set for anything!

Current is one thing and then there is wind, which is why I have a kicker motor in addition to my trolling motor.

I have 112 on 18.5 ranger and would not want any less. Had 24volt system on 17 tuffy and up grated to 36volt due to lack of performance in p4 and p4 current
