Took a couple buddies with me out to the canal on Tuesday after we hit Harlan on Monday. The wind was really howling, probably 30-35mph, but we hung in and found a few places to hide. We only managed 6 crappies and one big drum, pretty slow. The water was 55, but that could change after this real cold weather comes through. After that, I expect the crappies to start moving up to get their collective groove on. I think now they’re hanging out in deeper water getting ready to move up. This weather will hold em there for a while yet, but it’ll be on in a few weeks.

Well, I did catch half of the crappies, and the drum. But as we say, the drum doesn’t count!

April 6, 2007 at 2:51 pm #557891Really? I’ve only used them a couple times.
..and it’s always been early or late in the year when the bite has been slow.
Since I can only use two lines, normally they both have suckers/bullheads on…but when it’s slow, I’ll drop a worm down and whatever I catch that is legal…I’ll put on a cat hook and go back to nipping…er…spelling error…napping.April 6, 2007 at 7:16 pm #558079If you can get them to stay alive, they make great flathead baits! But I’ll always know them as a white carp, too- I hate em!
April 6, 2007 at 7:57 pm #558095They make a great oil slick …………….. oh, shouldn’t say that. Small whites are great big kitty bait, too.
