Had a couple of hours to burn and spent it shore fishing the Rum for Smallies. With the water levels finally coming down the Smallmouth bite is really heating up with the fish relating back to the deeper holes and current breaks. We caught about 10-15 fish ranging from a whopping 6″ up to a measley 21″ all on nightcrawler/ 1/8th oz.jig combos and 1/8th oz. jig/ Powerbait minnow grubs. Color wasn’t a factor at all as these fish were hungry and piggin’ out on just about anything they could get their chompers on…..only problem was keeping your bait away from those wacky Red Eye Crappies

    Schrump,

I’m headed up to the Rum this weekend for a canoe trip, and hopefully some hot smallie action. What’s a good section to float, it sounds like crawlers are the ticket. I’m might try some fly-fishing any suggestions on patterns
