I have been waiting for them to show up. Today is the first time I heard them or saw them. Sometimes we have some pretty hardy ones that stay all winter long, as long as they can find food. We are to get some warm temp for a few days then maybe a little snow or rain. I’m sure they will more likely be here now for the spring and summer.

There was a drake wood duck at Covill park yesterday.
Dad at one time, said “those birds must know something”. After a few years we came to the conclusion the early birds were the dumb ones (as far as predicting an early spring goes).
But it is a welcome sign none the less!
February 28, 2018 at 7:33 am #1755844Working from home in the southwest metro yesterday, I heard some geese fly over. Right or wrong, it’s a good sign.
My dad used to recite a poem, that I don’t remember, about it snowing three more times after seeing the first robin. So yeah, the early ones may be the dumb ones.
February 28, 2018 at 8:01 am #1755860Cardinals have started to get vocal in my neighborhood. Not full on singing but they are making their presence known.
February 28, 2018 at 8:29 am #1755871Saw first flights on honkers yesterday. They’re already staking out their nesting sites on the ponds close to us.

March 4, 2018 at 6:18 am #1756773When the wife starts shaving her legs again is my first sign of spring. Still have a bit to go boys.
Rod BentPosts: 360March 5, 2018 at 6:53 am #1756992First robins in Cottage Grove! They’re in for a heckuva day. Most schools are closed ahead of the storm.
