Hi all, I just picked up Remington 700 SPS in .243 nib for $250. Couldnt say no. It is not stolen, was won at a Banquet. Anyways it has a 1:9 1/8″ rifling twist rate. Not sure for what or if I will use it but Ill get it set up prolly. Cant hunt deer here with rifles and I have ARs and a .22-250 I use for coyutes. Any idea what weight will be most accurate with this twist rate? Thanks in advance.

I shoot 70 grain bullets just fine in a 1:10 twist for varmints. Good bullet to buck the wind. In fact, I’ve commented before that 243s seem to cover a lot of ground, mine shoots everything well from 70 to 100.
Don’t let anyone tell you it’s “not enough gun” for whitetail. My dad thought that until he folded up a buck like suitcase with a 100 grainer. Speed kills. Almost without exception, the people who say the .243 isn’t enough gun, don’t own one and have never used one.
Nice rifle for the price.

i used to own “still in the family tho” remi 700 .243 for the purpose of dogs/yote n deer hunting. i bought it back in my younger poorer days i think 1999. back then i beleive .243 was about the smallest caliber we could use in MN for deer. however i also wanted a multi purpose rifle cz i was in college n broke. i loaded 55-60gr nosler ballistic for dogs/yotes.
ive taken a few whitetails with it using nosler 105gr partitions and they nvr went very far. some have dropped in their tracks.
heck ive had deer run further using a 12ga slug lolnow that i think about it, i should buy it back cz i do miss it lol
