I’m ordering a new 620,trading in the 2005. The new boat will have full windshields, 101 Terrova, kicker, wondering what I should order for a motor, my 05 has a 225 ETEC, I love the motor but it loves gas and oil, leaning towards a 250 opti or verado.Pros and cons of both would help .I also plan on having a hydraulic jackplate.

Congrats on the new Ranger. I have a 619 with a 225 etec ho and I know what you mean about the gas. The oil I use is xd-100 and I can’t complain about that. I will go with a Etec again on my next boat. I hate sitting behind a noisy smelly black motor at tourneys. I know I’ll catch some grief for that, but maybe a Merc user will give you a better scoop or impression of his motor. Good Luck with whatever you choose.

My father in law has the 2010 620vs w/ 250 ProXS and the power jackplate and can hit 64+ mph! I would imagine the opti would get you close to this. Anthing 150 or up is going to suck gas, but it seems to be good on oil.

My 08 has a F250 Yamaha. My 2013 (hoping) will have a 250 Yamaha Off Shore.
Mine once hit almost 60 (GPS) going down river, with high water, and with the wind.
Realisticaly, when conditions permit me to run wide open, it runs 55-56 MAX depending on load.
No jack plate and planes out immediately.
Don’t have the facts to back it, but probabably one of the best as far as fuel ussage goes if not the best.
Hope you like & have good luck with what ever decission you make!

I have a 2011 50hp etec, last season only put on 56 hours and use xd100, used 3 quarts of oil..love the etec..

I think merc is a good motor but them pro xs are annoying at idle I am not a fan of the vrod as I have had to many friends with problems, nothing major but a pain none the less.

Have you looked at a Yamaha Offshore 250? Thats what I would be putting on

my dad just got a new ranger this spring.. 620 with full windshield etc. He went with a 250 Yamaha fourstroke and a 9.9 kicker….last weekend we had it up to 57mph with 3 people and 3/4 tank of fuel, and there was still some throttle left….new hull design is pretty cool….goodluck on your choices

I love my 250 Pro XS on my 621 and would re-power with another in a second. I have no experience with the new Yammie Off Shore but I have heard good things about this motor thus would consider one on my next rig.
