Full Moon Trolling – Aug ’05

Back in the day, when I lived in Pierre, the August full moon bite was phenominal. This was prior to the drought years and the smelt population decline.
Sadly back in those days, we put the knife to all the fish we caught also. I can remember nights coming if from the flats with live wells full of 23″ fish. Thankfully I’ve learned what selective harvest is now.
August 23, 2005 at 3:56 pm #379825Can anyone explain to me why that boat is like that? I don’t get it???
August 23, 2005 at 4:03 pm #379826Note to self, don’t forget to strap boat prior to leaving access!

August 23, 2005 at 7:46 pm #379885Thanks for sharing Kooty! I miss the Old Missouri River. We used to pull some hoggs out of Bismark, ND from her.

Thanks for sharing those pictures. I’m guessing those fat fish were coming off of Sully or Peoria. I did that few times when I was still in SD during the full moon. It always amazed me how many boats would be on the water at night. It got downright crowded and dangerous a few times.
I love the photo of the boat in the street. Those Iowegians must have been pretty excited to get in the water. Missed the river by just a few blocks!

September 16, 2005 at 6:43 pm #384476Looks to me like the boat missed the “Stop Here” sign by a few feet.
