Thought I’d try and do my part and change current popular topics on here…
How long do you think before you see ice out around your local lakes?
Here in Southern MN/Northern IA, I think we have a good 6″-8″ yet on the main bodies of water, and the wind is starting to open up small sections, but the shorelines are deteriorating fast. Clear Lake IA is about 75% open though.

I predicted April 15 for Lake Minnetonka. With 50’s in the immediate forecast too.

Down around here it’s usually around April 5th-14th so you could very well be spot on Gimruis.

I would say around the 13th for the Platte/Sullivan area lakes. We are definitely ahead of last year. I just looked at my blogging last year Lake Pepin cleared 8 days earlier this year than last.

Here in Princeton the city and DNR constructed a fishing pier on the river this winter. Well the ice is gone, the river flooding, and the pier under water. doah I don’t know if that’s intentional. But the river floods EVERY year where they put the pier. Hopefully a tree doesn’t float down and take the whole thing out. roll It is a welcome addition as a lot of kids and people were starting to bank fish the area.

The pond is half ice free. It it rains today and we get a bit of wind it will be ice free by Monday.

Phillip’s Wisconsin area ice is holding it’s own. I measured 21.5″ on the north end thursday. The south end of the lake (flowage) is much softer and more slush. I’m guessing after the rain tonight we might be two weeks out yet.

Still driving wheelers up here in Nevis. Landings are starting to go pretty fast though.

The river in front of the house has about a ten foot wide opening. Otters are playing on the ice.

I have not been on the frozen lakes this year so I can not judge ice out. I look forward to this thread for updates and predictions.

Im currently sitting 6 miles out on LOW fishing. My Strikemaster LiteFlite will not break through while in the house in some spots. 30-36″ over a 10 mile area, we have another 10+ days up here for sure…

Ice fished for the last time in southern WI on the morning of 3/8, fished in a boat that afternoon on the same body of water (just the northern end where the river comes in)

Had the boat in 4 times since

I was out last night and all’s well. 28″ or so, the top 4″ is white ice, the bottom 2′ is rock solid. The access areas are holding up decent but it rained over night. I’ll be traveling with the spud bar today.

We’re done here. I’ve had the kayak out a few times now for brownies on the big lake. I’ll be chasing pennies here in a week or so. Just to hard to give up on a good brown trout bite.
