GPS Question

I have a stupid question about my GPS system. I have a Lowrance 3500 Global Maps 3500c. The unit works…such as speed and it finds my position but I bought a new chip and when I put it in, the screen just blinks and I see a generic screen with no map. Do I need to do something different or should I just be able to put the chip in and use it? I have always owned Humminbird and don’t know if Lowrance is different.

I used to have a Global Map 7600C and I bought a new Navionics HotMaps Premium for it and it did the same thing. I was told I needed to find a chip that was a 1998 or older and it would work fine. I found a 1997 HotMaps Premium at Reeds in Walker,Mn and it worked fine and showed everything.

I had a similar issue with my HDS 5 Gen 1, maps from the chip wouldn’t work. Downloaded software updates per their recs, different chips in different regions didn’t work, ended up getting it warrantied, now works perfectly.
