Congrats on a very cool looking fish. I was down at the fish hatchery in Spirit Lake Iowa two weeks ago when the walleyes and muskies were in and one of the muskies in the tank had markings all across his back that were the same as the markings on his sides a lot like your northern. He really stuck out in that tank of normal colored muskies.
Got this guy this morning around 7:00 a.m. He came into a hen and Jake decoy and was about to thrash the Jake decoy when I put the hammer down. Two year old and twenty three pounds on the nose.
I will be going out with a buddy bright and early tomorrow morning. Going to try to get him one with his crossbow. Going to be pretty windy but it’s always windy down here amongst the wind towers. At least it will be pretty warm and not a foot of snow.
In a little over a month my buddy and me will put the waders on and load the big Otter sled with all our crap and wade out to a big downed cottonwood tree that has fallen into the lake and get after some crappies that have taken up spending time under it’s submerged branches. Always a good time.
Floyd Ragan the game warden in the Slayton area many years ago was on the record as saying he shot any cat that was more than a quarter of a mile from the nearest farm place.
I have had a lifetime license for over twenty years. One of the reasons you have to renew every year is if you need a pheasant or duck stamp, Walk-in-Acess, HIP certified, etc. these extra charges are on your new yearly license.
We had one of the poorest openers that I can ever remember. Two wood ducks and two teal for four guys. I’m not sure I even saw a mallard. Hunting southern Murray county.
Just ordered a set of the General Grabber ATXs today. Had Falken Wildpeak ATs on my Ford F150 and got 21k on them and they were done. Maybe half the miles on gravel but not run hard at all. Lots of good reviews on them but not from me. Hoping for better performance from the Grabbers.
We got nine bluewings for four of us. Didn’t see near the amount of teal as we have the past two years. The other three members of our party went dove hunting and had forty five by 9:30.
Wait til dusk and carefully cinch it down to the size of the nozzle of your leaf blower and hit it full force with air while spraying it with wasp spray alongside the nozzle at the same time. Wearing your ice suit would be a good idea too.
I have had 5.96” from about noon Thursday until 5:30 a.m. this morning.Been up since 1:00 a.m. with three pumps running in the basement to keep my furnace and water heater safe. Possibly a lot more coming tonight. A very bad time to be a newly hatched pheasant or turkey down in the Worthington area.
My season starts tomorrow. Got a couple of guys that I will be hunting with that we will try to get their birds first. I like if you don’t get one this season it just rolls into the last season.
Thanks everybody for your answers. What I am seeing if you really want to know for sure that you should probably ask you local CO. Hate to imagine getting tagged for dropping a waxworm or minnow tail down the hole or even on the ice for that matter but you never know.
Back in the day when Floyd Ragan was the game warden in the Slayton area he was on record as saying he shot every cat he could if more than a quarter mile from the nearest farm.
