I refilled once it was done draining and sealed it up.

So here’s what I found when pulled the screw for lower unit. First spit of oil was milky/brown. There rest is good looking blue.
Safe to run one day this weekend before I bring it in or no?
Could I use gasket sealer on that one spot where I see it seeping out?
Draining lower unit oil after work today. Will post pick of the pan. fingers crossed it’s just partially burnt oil/gas…..
I knew Prince’s sold boats, didnt know they worked on them. Good to know!
Zooks- yes, I’ve used robbinsdale a few times in the past. they’re reasonable!
I don’t know if that’s lower unit or 2-stroke oil. It is coming out of the gap where the lower unit and midsection connects. I took the anode off to get a better picture of where the leak is. I don’t know much about outboards.
As dumb as I sound I didn’t know what that part was called! I assumed it’s a seal. I’ve had some clean oil drip down after use. It’s a really old motor, figured the bowls were filled up and it’s just finding it’s way out of the motor cover. But when I stepped out for work this morning saw this stuff and was worried.
So this is semi burnt motor oil, not lower unit lube? Thanks for the advice.
If you want to reach the most knowledgeable DNR officers regarding Mille Lacs, the info is below. They usually CC several dnr contacts in their replies. Like Will stated, they are doing their job by standing to the side. I would assume (hope) the DNR officials share some of the same thoughts and feelings as we do.

BigWerm- this is what the DNR says when you ask them…. I e-mailed them yesterday questioning if the quota had been reached but yet eye witnesses are seeing tubs of walleyes and nets in the water still.
The response I received yesterday:
“That is a good question because the quota that the bands use to harvest walleye doesn’t include all the walleye they can harvest. What happens is that the bands take their allocation and divide it into two pieces. The biggest piece is what they use to limit their walleye catch during walleye spawning. But they set aside a small portion (1,000 lb this year) that can be used for walleye that are accidentally caught while netting perch. The perch fishing general occurs about two weeks after walleye fishing, and that is what is going on now.
We do not regulate any of the band’s fishing activities, but we do monitor portions of it.”
My two cents here, will probably get rung for it. The lake is down- badly, and for a number of reasons. it’s not just our harvest #’s. zebra mussels & forage play a role. Well the dinky perch are back and tulibees are still being had. so the food is there. With the decrease in pike numbers soon to come (which I’m for) should help a bit.
The DNR has played with the slot quite a bit, which I’m for. 2 18-20″ fish is more than a enough for a meal for 2 people. I don’t and never did fish Mille Lacs to get my limit. It’s about the shot at catching multiple trophy class fish. If i can drive 1.5 hours north to catch 5 fish over 24″s I’m sold. Now if it goes to 1 fish limit, 19-21″, that’s still some serious meat.
Now to my question- this will be the 2nd year of a very limited slot. Once the surveys are completed this year and results are shown, how about implement no netting for the year, maybe two and sample the results. This lake will be the best in MN again, but it won’t happen soon. By not allowing netting during the spawn for 1-2 years and showing the results. Whether it has a direct impact or not, will put the fisherman at peace. People argue that the netting is the cause, well the DNR should prove it isn’t. I think that’d be fantastic.
Am I dreaming? Probably.
Once you get the settings you prefer and want to see when you turn it on everytime go to system setting and hit save- that will be the home screen everytime you turn it on. from sensitivity, backlight, views, etc.
Clutch spring. I had the exact same thing last week- the bit spun and would kill randomly half way through the hole. Strikemaster was great and fixed it up right away.
Wanted to follow up with you all with Strikemaster’s service. Wow are they great. E-mail is best and they’re pretty quick to respond.
My pops was nice enough to bring it there for me since I couldnt get off work. They tore into it while he waited. Clutch spring was broke. Replaced that at no cost. Also adjusted the jets since I said it was a tough starter.
It’s still under warranty so this was all done at no charge. 30 minutes and it runs like a top. I’m excited to have it on the ice this weekend to see how it performs tuned correctly.
Strikemaster was closed for the holiday yesterday. Wish my company would do the same! I had an e-mail from them at 5:50am today. They said bring it in and they’ll fix whatever is needed while I wait.
Hopefully they’ll go through everything like it was their own so it starts, runs, and holds up like they should.
I’ll post an update once I return from there. You have to appreciate the prompt response!
FishBlood- I would call H2 Outfitters, they’re pretty good about diagnosing things over the phone for quick fixes.
My black line came off the primer ball. Zip tied it until I had time to bring it in. H2O instantly said the black lines are basically junk and said they’d replace them. They put on yellow/clear gas lines. No issues since.
Zach- You’re probably right. Realized that when I went to get the mail after work. I want to bring this auger directly to strikemaster this time. H2O has been great at fixing things, but I want to rule out a lemon. 2 new recoils, carb tune, new lines, etc. and it still wouldn’t fire unless I held the throttle down.
Now the bit spins itself… I hope I can go a season without bringing my new auger to a dealer someday- 2 years no dice.
My buddy turned me down when I asked if I could buy my old auger back! Had to try haha
Slabchaser- I hope you didn’t think I was being sarcastic when I said H2Outfitters is top notch. They run a nice operation there. If it’s a small carb tweak or replacing the fuel lines they’ll usually do it on the spot and you can leave with your auger.
They know their stuff and don’t mess around. nothing but pleased with their service, if only my auger returned that kinda service…
That would be nice to get a response in 20 minutes! I sent an e-mail this morning at 8:50 regarding ongoing issues with my Lazer Mag 2.5 with no response yet. Couldn’t get anyone on the phone either. I’ve been up to H2 Outfitters (they are top notch!) 3 times this year. when Strikemaster does respond they just say to bring it there. Now the bit spins on its own. With that, and i have to hold the throttle wide open for it to pop is not a good combo.
Like riverrat said- when they work, boy there is nothing better. But it’s hard to justify with all the issues I’ve had. Should have never sold my buddy my old tecumseh lazer mag….
I will say one thing- new plug, fresh non-oxy 91, amsoil saber 50:1 and a shot of sea foam = amazing.
this may be a dumb question… but amsoil saber pro comes in a 100:1 pre mix bottle and a bottle that says “good for all ratios”. Is there a difference?
I spoke to H2 Outfitters in Big Lake and they said these new solos are set up rather aggressive. I had the issue that it would buck at the last inch or two and damn near rip my arms off. He told me to hold it wide open throttle and have zero downward pressure, almost pulling up on it so it shaves the last inch.
Like everyone else has stated- you’ll get used to it and figure it out. Plus, with how fast you get to the last 2 inches you have time to spare while your buddy is pushing his auger as hard as he can to keep up!
good tip there mudshark. I just picked up new plugs and a bottle of saber. going to give that a shot as my solo 2.5 can be a pain to start on a cold morning. Once warmed up it runs like a dream- but does have the goo coming out of decompression button and exhaust. hopefully the saber clears that up.
Osseo Meat Market has been the place for me my whole life. I’ve tried Von Hansen’s(Champling) and Brother’s meats (Maple Grove), they are good- but not quite like Osseo Meats. You’re guaranteed your meat back too. I’ve heard of some places combining deer for sticks/jerky.
Osseo meats jerky is real thick and almost any flavor you’d like! Great place.
I may be out of the loop- but I picked up a LX-7 this year. Being this year will have some or the most current update on it? Or do I need to download it?
Also- I agree on the sensitivity/target adjust. I drop it down enough to get than nice thin line but its blue and will disappear when i dont move it. put it up one setting and its a pretty thick line. Wish we could adjust that a little more. It’s a little bulky/heavy for hole hopping, but thats ok. the silent read out is awesome.
Here’s a question for all of you… I’m in a fishing league and we have an event this weekend. I was out last weekend looking for gills. Dropped the camera down in 5′ of water to find some dandys sitting in the weeds. Decided to get a few so i dropped the LX-7 down to get a cluster… Couldnt even see me jig on the screen. It was scattered marks so i figured i would be able to catch my jig up and down atleast. Nope. Played with the target adjust, sensitivity as much as i could and oculdnt see my jig. MY buddy’s LX-5 read his jig just fine.
Do i need to adjust the ping rate? What does that do anyways? I dont truly need a the flasher on that weed bed but it’d be nice ofcourse.
