I got off of work early on thursday and decided to take the old man out fishing for the afternoon. Got out fishing at about 3:30 and fished til about 8. We started out drifting the Yellow River bar in about 14 fow and didnt get anything. We tried trolling it to no avail also. Our next stop was just below the state park beach. We made two drifts with a 1/16th oz jig and we must of had 20 hits but could not connect on any fish. We decided we needed to make a few changes. We went from half of crawler to about a third and down sized our hooks. That proved to be the right move as we started getting into the bluegills. If a guy were to go out there with a bobber and a 1/3 of a crawler i think you could have a bawl. Back to the search for the eyes. We headed across the lake and started into the river. We found a steep shoreline that went from a 10′ shelf straight down to 20′. We drifted this break line in about 14 fow and started catching many 10″ to 14″ eyes. We were dragging a 1/16th oz BFT Precision head and a half of crawler. We found one little pocket that seemed to hold a lot of the fish so we just held the boat there and pitched into the 10′ shelf and slowly worked it back to the boat letting it bounce down the break line. Many fish came just as it was falling off the 10′ shelf. Ended up with aout 20 eyes, 2 small mouth, and a bunch of gils. It was a fun trip and nice to spend some time with the old man.
