Hopefully the warm summer water doesn’t affect the winter temps too much. Last season was a total bust. Looking forward to some big lakers through the ice once again.
Warm indeed. Last week the surface temps were 74 out from McQuade and 68 out of Two Harbors. I saw a herring caught off the breakwater and one of several boats had a couple two pound trout. The water at the breakwater appeared to be way up from a year ago and I wonder if that has changed the fishing much. The dnr creel counter dude said the fishing was better in the Grand Marais area where the water is colder. If some serious cold isn’t seen this winter there may not be much of an ice season on the big puddle again….that’s a lot of water to cool off.
