Going lake trout fishing and hoping to do some jigging.

I have some heavy bass rods with bait casting reels on them.

These Lakers are in the 6lbs. to 20lbs. range at max with most in the 8lbs. range.

Would my bass rods work for this?

I’m attempting to not buy a new rod.

Yes I use a spinning reel 2500 series with 10lb fire line a fish lake trout on lotw with no problem. A good drag or back real is the key.

We went out in Superior with guide in July and he was running medium xf 7ish ft rods for most of his setups. Not sure what size reel he had on them but they were larger then a 2500. They seemed to handle mid 30 inch fish just fine. Your bass gear will definitely do the job.

We catch a ton of Lake Trout in Canada each spring on out Bass Gear. Not only will it work, but its a ton of fun on the lighter gear.
