I have a 6 month old lab and am hearing multiple opinions on when to switch to adult food. I’ve heard everything from basically right away to a full year. Anyone care to share your opinion? Thanks.

Wiki says one year. Interweb sites I found mentioned at least that for labs but as low as 9 months for other dogs. I would just call my vet and do whatever he says.

My vet friend says 12-18 months. At least wait until the big growth spurts are through.

I recommend mixing over to adult food at 12 months of age. I am a small animal vet in Minnesota. Bone growth should be done and the extra calories should not be needed unless underweight.

My vet recommended waiting till she was a year old and then mix in the adult food till it’s all adult. I took 2 weeks making the transition. Li’l Miss Dumb & Happy never missed a beat. ) jerr

Thanks for the replies. I think I’ll just switch to a better quality puppy food specifically for large breed pups.
