Any updated reports from the miller/redfield area? We are looking at a late nov hunt that strictly a public land hunt…a few WMA’s and mostly ditches. My partner is starting to balk a little due to poor reports….and I am hoping for some news to change his mind.

I’ll be in that area from Nov 8-17. I can give you an update then. The report I got yesterday was poor from down in the Presho area. This is a surprise since this is one of the best areas, the most commercialized, of the state. I’m hearing about a lot of cancellations from different groups.

Poor South Dakota hunting is still better than anything in Minnesota.

I’ll be in the northwest area of South Dakota this weekend.

They certainly have more control over it with all those planted birds…

That’s fine by me. The more birds I can get my pup on the better.

I did go to that game farm in Wisconsin last Friday. Not a bad place.

My dog did pretty good. We still need to work being steady to shot though. Overall he did very good for a 10 month old.

What breed dog are you training? My Draht is 10 and slowing down big time. The jacket I got from you worked great Sunday at the Game Farm in LeSeueuer

How are they for burs? My Pudelpointer is terrible. I just shaved her head in anticipation of this weekend and now she looks like a different dog! Not good.

Yes, Once I hunted over one I had to have one. Its sad when they age. Have to feed her rimydal before and after hunt. She has hard time doing multi day hunts now so we will not go to SD again. Will stick to short game farm hunts and grouse at my cabin in NW WI She is from a breeder in Park Falls WI and is all black and very fuzzy. Where is yours from?
Did you go to hunt club in Forrest WI? Is it members only?

Greta is fuzzy like a griffen and is a burr magnet. Always have metal comb and scissors in dog box.

Yep. Scissors and metal comb in my box. I have a bur brush too but it only works on certain kinds of stickers.

With all those dumb game farm birds out in SD you shouldn’t even need a dog.

Part of me wishes I had seen that once. Just to say I had.

We got Bolt from a breeder in St.Micheal. Vom Brandherd. Hes the second litter they’ve had.

Bolt mostly gets burrs on his face and head. A few on his legs but not bad.

A metal comb is a must.

    Just returned from Miller area.

It was tough, public land was pretty much a bust, road ditches produced, but that was tough also.

Still at least 50% of the corn in and 25% of the beans.

I would estimate the pheasant population was down 50% from last year.

We hunted around Sisseton. It was very slow for us.

Lots of corn still standing. Had we gone this weekend I think most of the crops would have been down. I’m sure we would have done better.

And you’d be hunting in snow… They got 3-5 inches out there yesterday.

We are planning another trip beginning of December. Nice walking when everything is frozen.

I love late season hunts. Much smarter birds and they tend to be bunched up so when you get some shooting, it’s not uncommon to unload the gun. Good luck out there. Might still be corn in this year…
