I took Doug Bergsma out for the big Gators today! If the name sounds familiar his brother has spent a lot of time leading the PWT this year.
We headed for the Brule Backwaters and up the Paint River. Doug adapted to the baitcaster quickly and although the muskies avoided capture we had a great day. Doug caught several nice Pike and lost a whopper Smallmouth that hit a 6″ little Ernie musky lure and threw it back at us in a high acrobatic jump. The water temp is STILL only 70 degrees on the Northwoods Lakes. We need rain!!!!

How much warmer do you want it to get Tom? For most fishing……………..isn’t 70 degrees enough? May be a dumb question but I really don’t know!

My experience here for Muskies is a very agressive nature in August and early September when temps are mid to high 70s for shallow or topwater presentations.
Right now I think bucktails or cranks may be more effective……just not quite as exciting!
