what do you water trappers prefer for your drowner sets. I have been working with cable on my disposable anchors but debating for my sliders……wire is easier to pack and cheaper but cable is so durable. Just curious if anyone has ever run into wire breaking at the point where you twist it on or any other issues I should look at.

Wire is cheap, easy, and has been used for quite a while. Works for me.

I run into a lot of places where the water is borderline of being drowning depth. Wire is good if you can get a quick drowning. In the event that you may be holding an animal at the shore, cable or drown rods are better

For the few sets I make a year as drowned sets I use wire, mostly on beaver sets. As for coon rats and mink I have a dozen traps rigged with cable and I use those around bridges and other high traffic areas to get the catch out of sight just a bit.
