Superior National Forest Trip

This was my first trip for my oldest who’s 5. I used to go to this area with my dad over 25 years ago and I haven’t been in at least 7 years. She’s been asking to go for some time because she knows she was named after a place up there.

We brought the canoe to fish a few lakes for stream trout mainly and maybe some bass and walleyes thrown in. We struggled badly for brook trout. Went to two lakes that I know well without a bite. Tried another for bass and walleye and ended up catching a few small bass and a Muskie. No picture of the musky unfortunately. We couldn’t get the phone pointed in time before she flopped in the water.

Hit another lake I know we’ll for rainbows and found some success.

Word of warning. Most and I mean most campgrounds are closed. If they have a bathroom or a well, they’re probably closed. Primitive campsites without any facilities seem to be open but don’t expect an easy search for places to stay right now.

Fish are just a bonus. The father/daughter time is priceless!

    Great trip, Matt!

Awesome pics!! Your daughter will remember this forever. I started taking my kids on fishing trips when the turned 7. They are in their late 30’s early 40’s and hooked on fishing. They started theur kids fishing the same way and they are hooked too. Nothing better than being in the wilderness with your kids/grandkids.
