i was down to whitewater on wednesday in the evening. started out catching a couple trout on a pheasent tail nymph but as the evening progressed i saw quite a few fish rising so i tryed some dry flies. i think i tied on every single different kind of dry fly i had in my vest and didn’t get but one strike. i could see some larger flys that seemed to be hatching but i don’t think thats what they were going after. the next day when i thought about it a little i remembered that there where a lot of very very tiny bugs hatching too and figured thats what they must have been eating. i was wondering if these were more then likely trico’s? i haven’t heard anything about them hatching yet but thats the only thing that i could think of. i’m pretty sure that trout don’t eat gnats, or do they?

Very good chance they were tricos. Yes they eat gnats as well. Trout eat, bugs, crustaceans, invertabrates, fish, worms etc etc.
