What are some good crankbaits for largemouth bass in a weedy pond? There are in some places openings where you can pull a crankbait through. I just don’t really know what to throw.

You might have better luck with a spinner bait or a chatter bait but a red eye shad or a strike king 1.5 works good just remeber the heavier the line the shallower it will run.

Don’t throw a crank bait. Way to many weeds. If you want something to move and get them throw a buzz bait up top or a spinner bait like suggested below. If it’s weedy there is no way you will get a crank through.

Manns Baby 1 minus / 1 minus is a great crankbait for weeds

    Any modern wake bait

Any classic wakebait like a bomber long a (preferably the lighter ones like the chrome or bone colored ones) or a RedFin retrieves slow enough to make a V on the surface.

Along the same lines, a minnow/jerkbait like the classic rapala.

Ever hear of ripping a lipless through the weeds? DEADLY on largemouth.

Throw a strike king redeye shad (best for this method due to their shape) out there and start cranking it back, when you feel weeds on it lower the rod tip slightly and do a hard quick snap of the rod. The weeds will come off and that is when the bass will strike, hold on because it will darn near knock the rod out of your hands. If you dont get bit then continue cranking and do the same if you get more weeds.

will any old rattl trap do that or do I have to spend $6.oo or $7.00 on that red eye shad?

They will, but not as well. You may waste a couple casts if you cant pop the weeds off. The redeyes are round where as the rattle traps are square, the square sort of holds the weeds where as the round shakes them off.

FYI, I always use braid in weeds with cranks. Much easier to clean your crank off in the water during the retrieve.

Rapala DT Fat 1. Like the Baby 1- it is a wake bait. Stays above most weeds but draws a lot of strikes. It should dive to about 1 Foot.

What do you mean they are “round?” because aren’t they shaped the same?

Yes, the top of classic Rattle Traps are square and the Strike King ones have round tops.
