They are one of my favorites, so wanted to share what I do with them. We got a bunch on LOW a few weeks back, dropped them off at Thielen Meats in Little Falls on The way back on Sunday, they brine and smoke them for a buck and change per pound, and were ready to go later that week. I really like them as is, but my wife doesn’t. So I made the attached smoked whitefish spread, and she LOVES it. Toughest part is picking bones, but pretty easy overall and dang tasty.

I have this belief that people who don’t “like” to eat fish have never had good fish. A lot of people eat poorly cleaned fish with bones in it that is past its prime.

This fish is certainly not past its prime. I would eat that in a hurry. Nice work!

Thanks, and I agree with you guys. My wife’s aversion was entirely based off picking bones and peeling the skin/scales off.

Definitely going to be noting this one down! Both my family and the in-laws love smoked fish so this should be a hit! Plus I’ve got a bunch slated for the smoker this weekend…

Absolutely an underrated fish. Pretty easy to find, attacks the bait like a lake trout, fights great and is awesome in the smoker.

Did you notice any worms in them? I have had poor luck getting tullies without worms. I have found lots of white worms in the meat of the ones I have attempted to clean from a few of the bigger lakes I have tried them from(never actually tried one from lotw).

It turned me off, and they ended up in the fish oil jars for trapping bait.
