They are one of my favorites, so wanted to share what I do with them. We got a bunch on LOW a few weeks back, dropped them off at Thielen Meats in Little Falls on The way back on Sunday, they brine and smoke them for a buck and change per pound, and were ready to go later that week. I really like them as is, but my wife doesn’t. So I made the attached smoked whitefish spread, and she LOVES it. Toughest part is picking bones, but pretty easy overall and dang tasty.

I have this belief that people who don’t “like” to eat fish have never had good fish. A lot of people eat poorly cleaned fish with bones in it that is past its prime.
This fish is certainly not past its prime. I would eat that in a hurry. Nice work!
March 14, 2018 at 10:11 am #1759527i never really did understand the issue with picking bones outta fish. but then again i grew up with scaled whole fried sunfish and fried pike. i still have no problem picking bones to eat fish.
and smoked tullies are awesome. i remember the days of leech lake off stony point and the blood bath days!!!!!!! wouldnt ming catching some more of them for the smoker.
them look great bigwerm!!!!!!!!
March 14, 2018 at 10:29 am #1759535Thanks, and I agree with you guys. My wife’s aversion was entirely based off picking bones and peeling the skin/scales off.
March 14, 2018 at 10:49 am #1759544Definitely going to be noting this one down! Both my family and the in-laws love smoked fish so this should be a hit! Plus I’ve got a bunch slated for the smoker this weekend…

I have found lots of white worms in the meat of the ones I have attempted to clean from a few of the bigger lakes I have tried them from(never actually tried one from lotw).
It turned me off, and they ended up in the fish oil jars for trapping bait.
