A couple of buddies were having this conversation last night and couldn’t remember when this changed from where possession was double the daily limit. Anyone remember the year this changed?

Mn doesnt have a different daily and possession. One limit on your possession at any time including home in the freezer.
May 18, 2020 at 2:22 pm #1943214There are some exceptions (perch) but the general rule is they are the same.

This says the Walleye limit has been 6 since 1956 but doesn’t mention daily vs possession.http://www.glfc.org/pubs/SpecialPubs/Sp91_1.pdf
This is from 1989 and the oldest thing I can find. It says “Minnesota’s walleye season extends from the second Saturday in May to February 15, with no size limit and a possession limit of six.” Not sure if it’s only talking about the Great Lakes specifically or not…I also can’t find old fishing regulation books online. Anybody have some older ones to see what they say?

Been longer than that for Walleye. Here’s the 2010 manual: https://www.leg.state.mn.us/docs/2010/other/100403.pdf

I believe that Walleye was the 1st to change. I believe it was changed a few years before other fish was changed. Then again it could have just been a lot longer ago than I remember. It just doesn’t seem like panfish has been this way for that long.
May 18, 2020 at 3:35 pm #1943229It’s almost unbelievable the number of people who fish the areas in Eastern MN that are unaware of this and think the possession and daily limits are separate like WI. I spoke with two local hardcore ice anglers this Winter (who rarely keep fish), and when this came up they thought I was simply BS’ing them.
