Got back from Mille Lacs last saturday.Could not have asked for a better week of weather. Definitely did better on days that there was at least some wind and definitely did best on the mud. Best presentation was at least a 10 foot snell with a red hook and a leech backtrolling with a drift sock in 28 feet of water. Caught many fish that were “too big” and a few that fell short of the slot. Biggest fish that made it to the boat went 25 inches.Traffic on the lake all week long was light i guess that people just dont want to fish in a lake where they cant keep everything they catch. Too bad i will take a lake where the fish grow big over one that gets raped and all thats left to catch is 12 inch walleyes and perch anyday. Cant wait until Sept/Oct!!!!!!

Yeah I agree with you totally!!…. and not trying to be controversial, I wonder if something could be worked out between the Tribes and the resorts around there, so that the Tribes could sell their catch to the resorts and the resorts could provide them to their customers…. the extra expense could be added in to the fees to stay… and with this fishery really coming alive as a trophy fishery with numbers I would think the attraction would be great…….

I do understand that people that drive from out of state to catch walleye would also like to eat some and I guess the current slot makes it next to impossible…… which is really hurting the resorts(lost customers) and the tribes (loss of casino biz)…. if they could cooperate it just seems like the problems could be resolved…. should be a win/win deal…..

but then Im distant from the situation and maybe there is some reason that it would not work…..

    just my 2 cents worth….

The slot is really hurting the business up there, but man what a great spot to catch consistently good fish. Where else in Mn can you have a legitimate shot at big eyes, huge smallies, and monster pike and muskies. I hope they can try to work something out to help the good people up there. It is a sticky situation.
