I played today in the sun city area and everyone in the area is maybe 75 years old I think closer to 80. I feel like a snot nose kid, and I’m in my 50’s. The locals either don’t like visitors or maybe guys not in their age group is the problem. I am going to play either Troon or TPC tomorrow. Anyone played both and can offer an opinion?

Can’t offer any opinion on those courses but for years when I was younger, my brother and I would go stay at my grandparents for a week every March. They had a park model at a resort in Sun City. I felt the same way. Everyone was retired and driving their golf carts all over the place and when we showed up we got that “look” from all of them.

It’s been a few years but I prefer the TPC course to Troon. Troon is good, don’t get me wrong, just prefer TPC. The Dynamite Grill at Troon is great for breakfast. TPC s fun. I was first at the TPC Stadium Course for the 1996 Phoenix Open, Mickelson won as an ASU student. I enjoy playing the Champions Course there more than the Stadium Course. Just like the layout better.

If you are open to other courses the Biltmore Adobe Course is my personal favorite. Layout is great, well maintained, not played as hard as some of the others.

Yes, Im 63 and retired 5years ago and winter in Sun City West. We’re the young folks here, but finding more folks our age! We have 9 courses here in SCW and they all are nice courses and well worth a round of golf. We fish crappies when we’re not golfing. In fact, golfing at 2pm today and fishing Wednesday. Enjoy, You’ll be happy at either Troon or TPC.

Thank you for the responses. I am going to give the TPC champions course a go tomorrow.

We’d fly down for a week every winter, stayed in a gated community in Mesa while driving all over to play courses each day. Definitely got the stink eye from the residents! Ocotillo/gold canyon/ASU were great courses & some of the community courses were nice too. The buffet at the casino was outstanding, an hr drive but worth it, think it’s called Ah Chin south of Phoenix.

I’d rank them in the order:

    1) TPC stadium
    2) Troon north
    3) TPC champions

Don’t get me wrong…..all are phenomenal so you can’t go wrong but that’s my preference.

I thought the champions course was too easy for a TPC layout. It does feel good to go pretty low on a TPC course though!

My wife and I visited El Mirage RV Resort in Phoenix for Spring training. We were the “younger folks” but everybody tried to recruit my wife to join their pickle ball teams. They must have thought she was a ringer.

If you are up for a 2.5 hour drive or just ever get the chance, take a ride to Parker Arizona and play Emerald Canyon.

Was it Pueblo El Mirage? My folks stay there in a park model. They have 22 pickle ball courts, I believe. They bring in portable lights for big tournaments. I’ll be there in a couple weeks. Hope to golf, play pickle ball, and eat at that good Mexican joint by ( I think) Grand Ave. I’m 52,but will feel like a young punk. The scenery by the pool isn’t like Spring Break in the college years.

Anyone else love the smell of AZ the instant you leave the plane?
