Anybody know what kind of shape the 494 ramp is in? Is it open or is there an ice shelf? Is it possible to get up to the airport area?

    Thanks for any information.

No problem getting in and out yesterday afternoon. A bit of a shelf on the upstream ramp, and loose chunks of ice on the downstream side, not an obstacle.

Thanks Steve. I got to 494 about 2:30 p.m. At about sunset I set up on a wing dam pitching a 3/8 oz blue head with a firecracker chartreuse Moxi and got five walleye ranging from 18″-22″ in about 45 minutes. The bite turned on when it got dark.

Good to here Boone. After dark bite was pretty slow for us over the weekend but then again we focused most our efforts during the day. With the high skies the day bite has been good.

Ramp conditions are fantastic for this time of year. 1st guy in in the mornings might have a little re freeze to deal with. We did run into some thick chunks of ice floating in the main channel last night coming down river. Always need to be watching for them. Guys have been out netting rough fish over the weekend. They had mentioned using lions ramp to.

Great weather this week. Good luck to anyone getting out.

Anyone been out of the 494 launch yesterday or today. Wondering if it is clear.

River looked clear shore to shore tonight as we went over the bridge. Bring some gear and knock it open if you get down there.

I have a new chainsaw Im itching to put to work on that ice. Just wish I had some waders to get out a little deeper. Couple hrs tops and that will be open. Just need a big enough spot to get the boat turned around and bust ice with it to the channel.

I think you should bust that up Mike. You can check EBay for neoprene waders. Should be able to find boot foots for under $50.

Stopped by this afternoon to check the ramp conditions after seeing the forecast calling for 40° on Saturday. I was disappointed to see this…ice covering close to 3/4 of the river.

So I would be a fan of people not chucking chunks of concrete into the launch or next to it where we beach our boats.

3/4 covered means 1/4 open in my book.

Think it was worse off last year about this time of year. Took about 2 1/2 – 3 hours to open ‘er up if I remember correctly.

I’m guessing someone will punch it open sometime tomorrow (Friday). Should be good to go on Saturday. Nice warm stretch headed our way!

Sounds about right Jon, but that was after that cold stretch around the Superbowl. Looks like a lot less work down there now.

I’m sure thinking it will be nice to be back in a boat again Saturday.
