Our hosting provider had to perform emergency maintenance on the host machine that powers our virtual database server. They actually removed the hard drives and transferred them into a new machine and then performed a live migration. I was kind of wondering if some of the issues of late were being caused by the failing host machine. Maybe?

As BrianF mentioned Bass Boat Central is still chugging along. I’ve got more posts there than I do here and I think I’ve been at IDO a few years longer.

For Facebook Groups MN Bassheads is the bomb for MN bass fishing info.

YouTube has MN angler Rich “Hellabass” Lindgren and his community that you can join for a few bucks a month. Tomorrow night he’s doing a livestream and giving away a bunch of stuff with another Youtuber. I think that is one for anyone who watches his Channel tomorrow. Not sure what time he plans on starting.

Omnia, The MN Online Tackle Retailer has its growing and unique Ambassador program. I am a part of this program. Ambassadors just go fishing wherever they want and submit a fishing report of what body of water they fished and what tackle they caught them on. If somebody buys something because of my report they give me $5 or $10 of store credit. They have guys fishing all over the place. Much to my amazement, I think I’ve gotten around $35 in store credit so far. It’s a great source, for fishing reports.

I appreciate the work that you’re doing, Dave. This site is a uniquely valuable corner of the internet to many of us and I’m glad to see it live on.

It’s funny that this thread started. I was just thinking about posting on the Questions and Answers forum. Tonight I got right on IDO, but other times I’ve given up or eventually I get a message about being timed out.

My main fishing site is Walleye Central. It’s not for everyone and I’ll agree that it’s not what it was years ago… but IT WORKS! Good fishing, boat and electronics info. I especially like the Canada section. I could use some help on W/C reviving the Ice Fishing Section! The main difference between W/C and IDO is that Walleye Central doesn’t allow political bickering. There are some hunting sections, but they get very little traffic on W/C. It’s primarily a fishing site with a general section for other topics.

I visit both Walleye Central and IDO and see some IDO users with the same name as on W/C and others I think I recognize by style. I’ll visit IDO as long as I’m able, but Walleye Central is my first stop throughout the day.

WGL, after reading Bearcat’s response I can see exactly what you are talking about. He sounds like someone who has put too many UV Rays into his body, peace

I’m including some screenshots of the new forum. I am trying to keep the overall look/feel as similar as possible. I know how some of you are with change. lol

Also keep in mind that the screenshots are showing incomplete work.

Cool! I’m a guinea pig! The new forum is going to look great, Dave! Thanks for all you do for IDO! waytogo

I do have to say that WGL does speak more truth than most of you want to hear.

The site used to be so much more because those that got fed up with the BS and left WERE the ones making the informative posts and reports.

We all learned because of them, but who did they learn from? Someone else most likely, or were at least gracious enough to pass on what the learned on their own.

Basically what I am trying to say is the if it is something you miss they you need to be the ones to step up and fill the shoes of the oldtimers who have passed / moved on.

Not meaning to make this sound negative, I am far from perfect myself and should also be passing on info but I do have to say that WGL is more right that most want to give credit for…

So just sitting back and lurking watching things crash but not being part of it is something that seems normal ? I am actively posting fishing and hunting reports daily but I am the issue ? If so then I will happily walk away and let some guys watch it crash from the distance which to me seems odd, why bother coming here if your only hope is to watch it burn.
The other parts of his post make total sense but that part just seemed pretty odd. Thanks nord I appreciate the input.

Thats OK, I like watching this unfold. It’s like watching a slow-moving car wreck from a distance.

I am on Bowsite, Archery talk and Rokslide.
Archery talk can get pretty chaotic but can be entertaining.
The MN state forum on Bowsite doesn’t see much traffic but general forum does.
Archery talk has a ton of traffic on it. For the most part the only one I use on Archery talk is the bow hunting section.
When Rokslide first started it was primarily western driven and western hunters. It’s grown a fair amount since then.

Lets have a little history lesson here.

FTR and early IDO were around well before Facebook started up. A lot of those original members were guides, wanna be guides or tourney guys who were persuing sponsors. The main reason they were making “Contributions” was to benefit their own pocket book. Once FB started up, they went over there and created a “MY NAME OUTDOORS” account and pumped their business or product there. This timeframe also coincided with the requirement that giudes on the river needed to be licensed. Putting a lot of those guys on the sideline.

Someone mentioned HSO (HotSpotOutdoors) – MAN that was site was a blast about 8 years ago, we had a really good community but those that partook in the “Crazytown” thread – a dedicated forum for Politcal debate – got so mad at each other that they took their ball and went home. unfortunately most of those people were also the bigger contributors to the other threads and the site REALLY went downhill fast.

I did MN Outdoorsman for a while, too, and I know there’s a few of you on here from that site. It got to be the same 5 people talking about the same thing everyday and not a lot of new topics.

This site is the strongest one going that touches all of the outdoor topics. I REALLY like what you’re doing Dave, good luck and cant wait to see some of that deployed. I hope this site continues for years to come.

IMO, the #1 thing that killed HSO was over moderation. Post a link to any other site and it got dusted. Do it twice and they blocked you from the site. Both WC and HSO probably have more banned users then active. coffee

Thanks Dave, moderators and IDO guys for the info, and effort to keep things chugging along. It’s an awesome community here, and I’ve gained a lot of real world friends, an untold amount of knowledge, and for that I’m thankful! I went thru the downfall of LSF and hope IDO doesn’t go the same way, and if it does I’ll be done on forums. Thanks for working hard on this site.

I’m in a handful of FB groups, some great some bad. The smaller, more local the group the better, or so it seems. 3rivers runs a good one. Bass Pundit mentioned another good FB group.
