No more trout stocking in Christmas Lake?

I just noticed on the DNR website:

    https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/lakefind/showstocking.html?downum=27013700

…The last time trout were stocked in Christmas Lake was 2016! Did anyone else who normally fishes this lake wonder why the trout fishing on this lake sucked last year? Now we know!

The DNR has also quietly removed Christmas lake from their list of west metro trout lakes:

    https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/areas/fisheries/westmetro/troutfish

Is this the beginning of the end of the DNR public access to Christmas lake?

If the lake ass. wants to have a private lake then it should not have any public assistance.

Christmas is a two-story lake, correct? There are only a handful of lakes like this in the state where warm and cold water fish live side by side like this, so it’s not cool to lose one of them.

Yes, it is a 2 story lake. There was a big ordeal a few years ago because the access was closed for several months when they found zebra mussels in it. I don’t know why the DNR stopped stocking it, but I do know the lake association has been pushing to make it a private lake. I have a lot of memories fishing this lake over the last 20 years, I am not going to be happy if the public access ever closes

It’s a gated lake. I don’t think the dnr wants to go to another location to have the ais inspection done before accessing the lake to stock it. jester

Is Christmas lake a very clear lake like say Square Lake north of Stillwater?
The DNR a few years back made an agreement with the the local water shed and local lake Assoc. to suspend the stocking of trout to see if the trout were the cause of down grading of water clarity. They moved the stocking to Lake Elmo.
Now, the DNR wants to start up the trout stocking again as seeing no clear data showing trout effected water clarity. Of course there is push back saying the suspension has not been long enough. The science behind the reason of the trout effecting water clarity looks very sound.

Maybe the Christmas lake people are taking this route working with the DNR.

It is a very clear lake. They have been stocking trout in it for at least 20 years, I have not personally noticed any change in clarity recently. If there is a situation like Square lake, why hasn’t there been any news about it?

The only news about Christmas Lake is when they pay the local stations to run propaganda pieces to pretend like its a public lake so that the general public doesn’t get upset that tax money is going towards a “private” lake. I’d be willing to bet that the experimental treatments we paid a ton for didn’t work and they’re trying to avoid embarrassment after they proudly declared during one of the puff pieces that it had worked and then they ended up trying another method because it didn’t actually work.
