Fishing was tough yesterday. But we managed a nice meal and some nice Grouper to boot.

I love the salt and live for it. It’s where my heart belongs. That’s a bummer you didn’t get out.
April 17, 2019 at 8:10 am #1851342We were just down in the keys and did pretty well on tarpon and barracuda. Love the saltwater fishing, too.

Yeah I was hoping to get on Tarpon this trip but it’s a hair to early. They are just starting to come north. Guess I’ll have to swing down for a few days around the end of June. I’ve already scheduled a mid-August trip down here for scalloping.

It’s actually a shame and a little sad (when I over think it). I doubt the boy has any idea how spoiled he is and how great he has it.

2 weeks ago we are fishing the Gandy bridge in the bay by the channel. We are marking fish and birds are hanging and eating a large school of bait. I hooked into what I have to believe we Spanish mackeral about a half dozen times only to have them cut the line. Wish I had some pike leaders that day. Any how that’s the set up.
So we are fishing and all of a sudden mayhem breaks out and the water is like a washtub and a wave of disturbance is headed right at us. A school of Jacks (probably macks and blue runners mixed in) decided to bum rush the school of bait. It was remarkable to see that happen and about 60 seconds later it was all over.
Jacks are just beasts.

Matt, did you have a guide?

Yeah, fished with a guy named Mike O’Dell. Best guide I’ve ever been with down there. He launches out of Hawks Cay resort. Let me know if you want contact info.
