Mississippi south of Brainerd

Anyone spend any time on the river up that way? I am planning on camping and fishing between the crow wing river and brainerd this weekend. The Gf and I both enjoy new stretches of water and it is the last new stretch to us from Grand Rapids to the cities. I hope is to get her on her first muskie. We have made a few trips to the Croix since opener but it is time for a change of scenery. Smallies will get their turn also with the Gf only making it a few hours throwing muskie baits.

Everytime passing it on 371 I say to myself, man that looks like it could be a good strech of water.

I do know that the Lindner boys like that stretch of river for musky. I even saw them filming just up river from the bridge in Baxter, if I remember right, it was in the fall.

I can’t say we spent much time casting for muskies but we did have some great smallie fishing when we got in the right areas. I picked up some swim baits Thurs night and definitely found a new favorite bait. I did spend some time throwing topwaters but most of are fish were coming out of deeper water and not hitting on the surface.

Great idea, looks like you had a good time. If you were a week later I might have joined you. I’m in the area this weekend and possibly the following.

Gull is super slow this year and keep remembering more than one Lindner episode on the river. One of these days I’ll have to hit that.

Just looked at the flow from last week to yesterday man has it dropped over the week.
