I have just returned from two weeks of guiding on the Mississippi near Red Wing, Minn. White Bass, Walleye, and Sauger were all ready to do battle. Here is a picture of a typical dandy Eye caught by Ken VanHolla of Iron Mountain, followed by an update on the fishing.

    Menominee River

The reoprt for the river is a little better this week. The boats are really starting to pile up in the mouth in search for walleyes. Earlier last week the walleye bite was fair with most people jigging minnows. Later in the week the bite slowed though with the cold front that moved in. Also heard of a few nice sized fish near the 8-10 lb range being caught near the mouth. The action towards the dam area hasn’t picked up yet either, water temp is still in the mid to upper 30’s but with the warm weather coming up with the warm rain they should be moving up river.

Although most people were focused on the river there were a few people out flat lining for trout. Talked to one guy who picked up a 6 lb brown on the Wisconsin side, and also talked to another guy who had one splake and missed one while casting spoons of the Marina Pier. With the east wind the ice blew back in on saturday night and is still there as of this afternoon. The shore line is blocked with ice so anyone thinking about heading out should check first and pray for a west wind. I’ll have more next week.

Here is a typical jumbo White Bass that hit a 1/4 oz NuckleBall jig and grub tail for Walleye.
