As far as walleye fishing this past three weeks was nothing but tough. Very inconsistent fishing. Used cranks, leeches and spinners. Fished the water from Pelican island to Sand Point. As usual windier days produced better but nothing spectacular. Make no mistake, the fish are there but spots are changing. Fishing deep humps can produce but these fish wont survive being pulled out of deep water especially this time of year.

There was a major hatch for about a week but by 7/2 it was diminished. Had lots of puked up mayflies in my livewell.

It has been a rough season overall. I’ve spent 10 days in the last month fishing Leech and I’ve found myself stymied too often. The one pattern that has worked for me is finding very shallow flats and trolling with shad-rap 5’s at dusk/night.

You are right Sean. The crank bait thing has been very consistent over the past several years. You have to be willing to fish at a time of day or night usually spent kicking back with your buddies
