We are going up for the firs time the second week of June. Would be interested to hear what works for you. Never have fished there.
Will be up there the 1st week of June tent camping as well! Any intell you can share would be apprecieated and I will keep you posted on how we do.
eyeketcher, nice boat…. looks very similar to my 07 1750 Tyee.
The boat is set up just for this trip.
Has a MK2-dc to recharge the TM batteries from the alternator.
I spot lock the whole week without access to electricity.
I would think June would be similar to August.
We tend to fish Namakan in August.
East end of Namakan Island or Hamilton.
Can you tell me more about your charging system, did not run out for the 4 days we were up there but worried about it.
Eyekatcher can you tell me more about the mk2? Looks like it sells for $55, what other costs are associated and how hard is it to install?
The DC Alternator chargers use one bank for each TM battery to be charged.
There is a wire from the charger to the starting circuit to determine when the engine is on.
There is also intelligent circuitry to know when the alternator is hitting (I think it is) 17 Amps
of output from alternator.
The MinnKotas DC and AC chargers are intelligent in that when I wired this to my two 24V TM battery setup,
it takes care of the protection as the chargers outputs are 12V.
The TM batteries are wired as a normal 24V setup
Each TM battery gets a pair of wires from both the AC charger and the DC charger
I wired the MK2-DC input wires and the AC charger (mine is 3 bank) output to the starting battery to a terminal block in the mid ship charger bin in the Lund.
I then ran a set of the charger extension cables from the terminal block to the starting battery.
This then serves as a single jumper set for the two chargers (bi-directional).
There are a lot of wires to make room for as well as getting two chargers in the bin.
I mounted the MK2-DC on the back wall and the 3 bank AC on the floor.
It all fits, but is tight
Ran a checkup on the boat yesterday on Pool 4.
I had changed the oil, filter, lower unit gear lube, cleaned air cleaner out.
Also changed plugs.
All good to go.
Picked up the beer and brats on the way home.
Time to start running my checklist to ensure all the gear is on board.
I hope you know you need a camping permit starting this year in Voyageur’s National Park. Still time to get it online and print it out before you go.
