Is this a depth weight?

My brother in law gave me a couple of old tackle boxes for Xmas. He knows I collect antique lures and keeps his eyes open at garage sales. I love getting them because there’s always some real gems in em. Besides old lures there’s typically some old tools, like metal scalers or knives. One box had some recent ice jigs and this thing, I’m assuming it’s a depth weight, but to be honest I’ve never seen such a thing. The paint job looks pretty new.

It looks like a planer release for trolling with big boards.

The bobber looking portion is a weight. It’s also a roach clip, not flat for line to slip through.

The alligator clip is meant to hold a rubber band that is girth hitched onto your fishing line.

    I’m not saying 100% that it’s a planer release……but you asked…..not me… mrgreen

If it’s a depth bomb, it’s an odd one.

Does the loop/hoop open up or split in any way??

These are the ones I have.

No, the metal hoop doesn’t open. I’ve searched, ‘fishing weight clips’, and not seeing anything that even looks similar. Also searched, ‘planer board clips’.

Its a old school hook out. Clip attaches to jacket etc. Use the little metal part to push hook pop it out.

Thanks IceHawk; although I’m not finding any on the internet, just to see who made them, I don’t doubt that’s what it’s for. Instead of keeping it in the basement collecting dust, I may put it in my fish house and use it. Seems like it would be easier to use with them tiny jigs in a small mouth, rather than a hemostat or your pinkie finger.

You’re all wrong. Its a cold weather pecker stretcher used for taking a leak in the cold. Helps keep your pinkies dry.

That’s why I take half a viagra for peeing w/layers on, to keep from dribbling on my clothes/shoes.

Which I’ve often wondered, how easy it for eskimos to go to the bathroom – do they have to completely strip out of their clothes?
