Is there a decent crappie fishery on the lower St. Croix?

I’m talking say from the Kinni down to Prescott. If so, what should I be looking for in this early season hunt? A little deeper water just off of spawning areas (flats with weeds/brush etc)?

I love that section of the river and want to get to know it better, not to mention close to home.

There’s a bridge in that stretch.

I do my best on sunken trees downstream of kinni.

    Other than that, shoreline structure.

SI and crappie are like peas in a pod

Not that I’ve ever looked, but at this time I’d think downstream of Kinmi on wi side mud flat would be warm and plentiful.

if you find them they will be nice ones! i’ve stumbled across them on rip rap shoreline early in the year. along with in the marinas. big fish but they are like ghosts out on the main river.

Like Steve-O said if you find ’em they’ll be decent. Pretty few and far in-between below the Kinni though I’m sure they’re there.
