Roach’s?

    I was ice fishing in IL last weekend with some locals and we went to the bait shop to purchase roach’s. I looked at the purchase and it was what I would call a shiner.

    I’m just curious if roach’s is a regional term or were we using a special sub-specie of a shiner minnow?

    I use to live in far southeastern Wisconsin where they were called Golden Roaches. Its just a regular shiner you can get anywhere.

    I wonder how shiners, started getting called roaches? Must be a good story there.
