The World’s Original Ice Fishing Contest
36th St. Paul Winter Carnival Ice Fishing Contest returns to White Bear Lake MN. Saturday, January 30, 2010.

Began in 1947, the World’s Original Ice Fishing Contest became one of the most anticipated winter events in Minnesota. In 1948 LIFE magazine featured an arial photo of the event as Picture Of The Week captioned, “The remarkable wheel-like pattern was formed by hardy Minnesotans who spent the frosty morning of Feb. 1 at the St. Paul Winter Carnival Fishing contest…Inside the wheel are 2,196 fishermen busily set trying to catch the biggest fish.”

The last World’s Original Ice Fishing Contest, a huge success for thirty-five years, was held in 1982. We are proud to announce the return of the World’s Original Ice Fishing Contest!

Originally in 1947, the winner of the contest won a snowsuit and a trophy. On Saturday, January 30, 2010, over $100,000 in prizes will be awarded, including a Grand Prize 4×4 Truck!
