Jiggin Rap modification

I have lost quite a few fish at the hole with jiggin raps. That darn tail hook always seems to bury itself into the bottom of the hole. I have never hooked one on the tail hook so I am thinking about snipping them off. Has anyone done this? I don’t want it to affect the action on the lure.
