I noticed the other day that there is some play in my auger powerhead. The shaft out of it the conects to the auger has about 3/8 inch of slop. I can lift the powerhead up that far without the auger moving. Works fine but is this normal or do I have a bad bearing or something..hate to have it come apart and lose the auger down the hole.

Is the slop in your transmission or where the auger meets the drive stub?

It may be a combination of both.

Make certain the pin for the bit through the stub is the correct size.

Your holes at the joint may be getting knocked out a bit also.

Remove the auger bit and grab the drive stub and check for in/out play in the Tranny.

That much slop seems excessive to me. I have a real old unit and mine has no where near that amount. I can’t say how the newer ones are built but it still doesn’t sound right. If it were me, I’d be opening up the gear case and checking things internally.
