Question – Pelican Lake in Ashby

We are in the process of buying a cabin and noticed a nice one went up for sale on Pelican. The lake looks huge (3000+ acres), but the max depth is only 21′. Does anyone know what the water quality is in the summer? Also, any fishing info other than DNR would help. Their report looked solid, especially for Walleye.

    Thanks.

I have fished Pelican (Ashby) for many years. As you said the lake is quite shallow. But, it does not get terribly weedy in the summer like some shallow water lakes. The walleye fishing there has varied from year-to-year. I’ve gotten a few nicer ones out of the lake, but not huge numbers. The walleye bite is mainly a weedline bite, generally only 6-8 feet. It is a really good LM bass lake and also has been pretty good for sunnies. Personally, I like the lake, but I have heard some of the locals suggest that it is not the greatest. Good luck!
