I spoke to Deb at Ben’s Bait Shop out of Battle Lake this morning. She says the ice on area lakes is about 8-10 inches and most folks are either on foot or using snowmobile/ATV to get around. She says the ice is too inconsistent for vehicles yet so be careful.

Deb says there are nice walleye being taken on Ottertail Lake, West Battle Lake, and Clitheral Lake with anglers reporting most success in 12 to 20 feet. Perch are being taken on Ottertail, fishing the flats. Crappies and sunnies are picking up on West Battle Lake and South Turtle Lake. Deb says many folks are using minnows and even larger shiners and suckers for larger walleye.

If you head into Ottertail County, be sure to stop by and see Deb and the gang at Ben’s Bait Shop at the corner of Hwy 78 and 210, Battle Lake, Minnesota. Or call 218-864-5596. They’re open all year!

Now get out there and catch some fish!

    From Explore MN…

    DETROIT LAKES
A few walleye are being taken around 3:30 to 6:30pm on rattling spoons
tipped with a fathead minnow. Pelican, Lizzie, Lida, Big Cormorant,
Big Detroit, Cotton, Floyd and Big Toad Lakes are all giving up a few
fish. Sunnies and crappies continue to be pulled from Little Cormorant,
Town, Big Toad, Prairie, Lizzie, Lida, Stump, Little Detroit, Cotton and
Little Pelican Lakes. Techni-Glo Frostees are working well when tipped
with a waxworm and worked in 8-12 feet of water in the weeds. Northern
pike are hitting shiners on tip-ups along the weedlines on most area
lakes. Ice conditions are good, with cars and trucks now accessing the
lake. But as always, please use extreme caution!
