Last year was mt first trip to the Rainy River and boy was it worth it. My father-in-law’s personal best walleye was around 5.5lbs and he landed a 10.5lb on the 1st day. I happened to land one pushing 12lbs! Granted, you have to play bumper boats but it’s an experience. We’re heading back up on April 6th. The best part of the trip was when Paul had a pig on and I was waiting with the net and giving advice. Paul said, “This isn’t me 1st rodeo.” As soon as he got this out of his mouth, the pig dove under the boat and SNAP!! I just sat there and rolled on the deck in laughter.

That is a great fish and is exactly why Rainy River if full of boaters in early April. I certainly hope we have a slow thaw this spring otherwise this annual trip is going to have a short window, if it even happens at all….
